In Ephesians 1:3 the Bible says that God “has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing.””he has blessed us in the Beloved”  The thought continues in Ephesians 1:6 that (i.e. Jesus).  Where are the blessings?  If we are going to “attain blessings,”“every spiritual blessing,” yes, IT WILL ONLY HAPPEN IF WE ARE IN CHRIST!  So that you don’t underestimate the importance of this phrase, I will tell you that Paul uses the phrases “in Christ,” “in the Lord” and “in him” about 165 times.

Because every spiritual blessing is “in Christ,” let’s see what the Bible says these blessings are:

1.  TO HAVE REDEMPTION

#  Colossians 1:13-14 “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, IN WHOM WE HAVE REDEMPTION, the forgiveness of sins.”

#  Romans 3:24 (We) “are justified by his grace as a gift, THROUGH THE REDEMPTION THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS.”

2. TO HAVE THE FORGIVENESS OF OUR TRESPASSES

#  Ephesians 1:7-8 “IN HIM WE HAVE redemption through his blood, THE FORGIVENESS OF OUR TRESPASSES.”

#  Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as GOD IN CHRIST FORGAVE YOU.”

3.  TO RECEIVE GRACE

#  2 Timothy 2:1 “You then, my child, be strengthened by the GRACE THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS.”

#  1 Timothy 1:14 “and THE GRACE OF OUR LORD overflowed for me with the faith and love that are IN CHRIST JESUS.”

4. TO RECEIVE SALVATION

#  2 Timothy 2:10 “Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain THE SALVATION THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS with eternal glory.”

#  Salvation is deliverance from all that we deserve: Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS our Lord.”

5.  TO BE A NEW CREATION 

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, IF ANYONE IS IN CHRIST, HE IS A NEW CREATION. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

6.  TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT

Ephesians 1:13-14 “IN HIM you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were SEALED WITH THE PROMISED HOLY SPIRIT, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.”

7.  TO BECOME SONS OF GOD 

Galatians 3:26 “For IN CHRIST JESUS YOU ARE ALL SONS OF GOD, through faith.”

8.  TO INHERIT ETERNAL LIFE

#  1 John 5:11 “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and THIS LIFE IS IN HIS SON.”

#  Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS our Lord.”

9.  SO THAT THERE IS NO CONDEMNATION FOR US

#  Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION FOR THOS WHO ARE IN CHRIST JESUS.”

10. TO OBTAIN AN INHERITANCE 

#  Ephesians 1:11 “IN HIM WE HAVE OBTAINED AN INHERITANCE, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will.”

11. TO BE BLESSED EVEN WHEN DEAD

#  Revelation 14:13 “And I heard a voice from heaven saying, ‘Write this: BLESSED ARE THE DEAD WHO DIE IN THE LORD from now on.’”

Notice that all of these blessings are in the same place?  For those who are “in Christ.”  That being the case, I have a question:  How do we get into Christ?  THE ANSWER IS: BY BEING BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST:

   #  Galatians 3:27  “For as many of you as were BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST have put on Christ.”

   #  Romans 6:3 “Do you not know that all of us who have been BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST JESUS were baptized into his death?”

So consider all the blessings that can be yours and how you get them.  Why wouldn’t you want to do this?   That’s what early Christians did:

  #  Acts 2:41 “Then THEY THAT GLADLY RECEIVED HIS WORD WERE BAPTIZED: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”

  #  Acts 16:14-15 “One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. THE LORD OPENED HER HEART to pay attention to what was said by Paul. And after SHE WAS BAPTIZED, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, ‘If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.’” 

If you want every spiritual blessing, God has been consistent to tell you where to find them.  They are yours if you want them.  Why not do exactly the same thing as early Christians did (“be baptized into Christ”) and receive the exact same blessings (“every spiritual blessing”)?
